A-Level Further Maths
Although I do not teach A-Level Further Maths, the following will provide you with all the information you need about the course.
It is an advanced qualification designed for students who have a strong interest and aptitude in mathematics. It builds on the content covered in A-Level Mathematics and introduces a broader and deeper range of mathematical concepts. This course is particularly suitable for students considering university courses or careers in mathematics, physics, engineering, economics, computer science, or other mathematically intensive subjects.
Further Mathematics is studied alongside A-Level Mathematics and typically includes both core pure mathematics and a selection of optional applied modules, such as mechanics, statistics, or decision mathematics, depending on the school or college’s offerings. The Edexcel specification emphasizes logical reasoning, problem-solving, abstract thinking, and mathematical modelling—skills that are valuable both academically and professionally.
By studying A-Level Further Mathematics, students gain a richer understanding of mathematical theory and practice, preparing them for the most competitive university courses and providing a strong foundation for future study in STEM fields.
The Core Pure Mathematics component is at the heart of the Edexcel A-Level Further Mathematics course. It makes up 50% of the qualification and is split across two exam papers:
- Core Pure 1
- Core Pure 2
